Hotel marketing that brings direct bookings

Websites that show rooms, rates and availability clearly, Google profiles and reviews that win the comparison, and campaigns that bring guests to book with you rather than through a travel portal.

Why it matters

Many independent hotels, resorts and homestays rely on online travel agencies for a large share of their bookings. The portals bring volume, but they charge commission on every stay, keep the guest relationship and put you side by side with the property down the road, competing on price. A hotel digital marketing agency should help you win back the guests who already know your name.

That starts with a website a guest can book from without friction: stay types with real photos and rates, an availability check, clear policies and a quick way to ask a question on WhatsApp. It continues on Google, where travellers check your Business Profile, photos and reviews before deciding, and on Instagram, where a stay is often first discovered.

We built the booking site for Nehamrit Farms, a 20-acre certified-organic farmstay in the Western Ghats at Murbad, 100 km from both Mumbai and Pune. It presents four stay types with rates, farm and birding experiences, farm-to-table dining, a gallery and a journal, with availability checks and enquiry capture throughout. Restaurants face the same problem with delivery and reservation apps, and the same principle applies: own your listing, your menu page and your guest relationships.

How we work

The process, step by step

Google profile and review fixes can go live in the first two weeks. A booking-ready website takes a few weeks, depending on the property and integrations. Growth in direct bookings builds over a season, not a weekend.

  1. Booking audit

    Week 1

Where bookings come from today, what each channel costs, and how your website and Google profile look to a first-time guest.

  2. Quick fixes on Google

    Weeks 1 to 2

Business Profile corrections, fresh photos, booking links and a review request routine, which can go live before any website work.

  3. Website and booking flow

    A few weeks, by size

Stay types, rates, experiences and an availability check, built and tested on phones. Timing depends on the number of rooms, pages and integrations.

  4. Content and campaigns

    From launch

Social content, travel SEO pages and campaigns planned around weekends, holidays and your seasons.

  5. Measure the direct share

    Monthly

Direct bookings and enquiries, share of bookings by channel, and marketing cost per direct booking.

Honest fit

Who this works for

Good fit

  • An independent hotel, resort, homestay, farmstay or restaurant that wants more bookings without paying commission on them.
  • You can share real photos, rates and availability rules.
  • Someone replies to booking enquiries quickly, including at weekends.

Not a fit

  • ✕You want to leave the travel portals overnight. Most properties need both for a while.
  • ✕Rates and availability cannot be shared publicly in any form.
  • ✕You want fake reviews or to ask only happy guests for reviews.

Hospitality work is scoped per property. The website is a fixed project fee, and SEO, social media and campaigns are a monthly retainer. We share a cost range after the booking audit.

What a hotel digital marketing agency should fix first

Before any campaign, fix the places where direct bookings already leak.

  1. The booking path on a phone. Open your website on a phone and try to check availability for next Saturday. If it takes more than a few taps, or ends in a form with no reply for hours, guests go back to the portal where booking is instant.
  2. Your Google Business Profile. Wrong hours, old photos or a missing website link send people who searched your name straight to a portal listing.
  3. Reviews and replies. Recent reviews matter more than your lifetime rating. A property that replies thoughtfully to criticism often reads as more trustworthy than one with no replies at all.
  4. A reason to book direct. Give guests something the portals cannot, such as breakfast, a late checkout or a farm experience. Check your portal contracts first, since some restrict how rates can differ between channels.

Our local SEO service covers the Google side, and our website development team builds the booking path.

Direct bookings versus OTAs: how to measure the shift

Track four numbers each month. The share of bookings by channel. Marketing spend divided by direct bookings, which gives your cost per direct booking. The commission you paid on portal bookings of similar value, for comparison. And the share of guests who come back. When the cost per direct booking is lower than the commission on the same stay, every booking you move is margin regained.

Restaurant digital marketing basics

For restaurants, the Google Business Profile does most of the work. Keep the menu, hours, photos and reservation links current, and answer reviews. Put the menu on your website as text, not a PDF, so it loads fast and can be found in search. Use social media marketing to show the food and the room, and run campaigns around festivals, events and new menus. Food festivals are a good example of how time-bound promotion works, and our events page covers that side.

Checklist for a booking website

  • Every stay or room type with real photos, capacity and a rate or starting rate
  • An availability check near the top of each room page
  • Policies for check-in, cancellation, children and pets
  • How to get there from the nearest cities
  • WhatsApp and call buttons on every page
  • Compressed galleries that load quickly on mobile data
  • Structured data describing your property, rooms and location
FAQ

Questions people ask us

Can we stop paying OTA commission completely?

Rarely, and that is not usually the goal. Travel portals reach guests who have never heard of you. The aim is to turn more of the guests who already know your name, including returning guests and people who find you on Google or Instagram, into direct bookings, so the portals become one channel rather than the only one.

Do we need a booking engine on our website?

If you have many rooms and want instant confirmation, yes, ideally connected to a channel manager so availability stays in sync with the portals. Smaller properties, farmstays and villas can do well with an availability check that sends a request to your team on WhatsApp, where a quick personal reply often closes the booking.

How important are Google reviews for a hotel?

Very. Guests compare ratings, recent reviews and your replies before booking, both on Google and on the portals. Ask every guest for a review at checkout or soon after, reply to every review including the critical ones, and never buy reviews or ask only satisfied guests, both of which break Google's policies.

What should a restaurant fix first?

Your Google Business Profile, with correct hours, the menu, photos, reservation or ordering links, and reviews. Then a fast website with the menu as text rather than a PDF, so it can be found and read on a phone. Social content showing the food and the room comes next, with campaigns for events, festivals and new menus.

Does social media actually bring bookings?

It brings discovery, and discovery leads to dates. A reel of a farm breakfast or a sunset from a room gets someone planning a weekend, and the booking follows on your website or WhatsApp. We track social media by enquiries and bookings with a recorded source, not by likes, so you can see whether it pays for itself.

How do you market a property near a big city?

Build around the short break. Nehamrit Farms is 100 km from both Mumbai and Pune, so its site speaks to people planning a weekend away from either city. Pages and campaigns should cover the drive, the experiences, what to pack and the best seasons, and target the cities guests actually travel from.
