Brand identity

A brand identity people recognise, wherever they see it

We define what your brand stands for, design the logo and visual system, and carry it through brochures, signage, social media, ads and your website, so every touchpoint looks like the same company.

Why it matters

Most businesses come to a branding agency at a turning point: a new institution opening its doors, a project launch, a product going national, or a company that has outgrown a logo made in a hurry years ago. The request is usually "we need a new logo". What they actually need is an identity that holds together when it appears on a hoarding, a brochure, an Instagram reel and a website in the same week.

Brand identity design covers that whole system. It includes the logo, but also colours, typography, imagery style, tone of voice and the rules that let any designer, printer or agency apply the brand without guessing. When Vidyarthi College launched, we designed its logo and branding collateral, built its websites and ran its ad campaigns, and the college credits that launch work with giving it a compelling brand identity from the start. For Kishkindha, a concept real estate brand we created in house, we designed the brand guidelines and a marketing grid; see the Kishkindha concept project and more identity work on our Behance profile.

We also design under deadline. For Bhubaneswar Food Fest and Kataka Food Fest, the only brand asset available was a logo. We built each festival's visual language around it, and both websites went live in seven days. For the Motwani Lordsway Sanskruti launch, art direction drew on Odia visual culture so the project did not look like another generic tower.

How we work

The process, step by step

A logo and core identity usually takes 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how quickly decisions are made. Launch collateral adds time according to the number of pieces. If a launch date is fixed, tell us at the start. Fast-track options are available, and the plan is built backwards from the date.

  1. Discovery

    Week 1

Interviews and a workshop with decision-makers, plus a review of competitors and the materials you use today.

  2. Strategy and positioning

    Week 2

A short written positioning and messaging framework, agreed before any design work begins.

  3. Identity concepts

    Weeks 2 to 4

Distinct logo and identity routes, each shown on real applications such as signage, a brochure cover and a social post.

  4. Refinement

    Weeks 4 to 5

The chosen route refined through the agreed revision rounds and tested at small and large sizes.

  5. Guidelines and collateral

    Weeks 5 to 7

Final files, brand guidelines and priority collateral delivered, ready for printers, vendors and your website.

Honest fit

Who this works for

Good fit

  • You are launching a new business, institution, project or product and want to start consistent.
  • Your current identity looks dated or different on every channel.
  • A decision-maker can join the discovery session and give clear, timely feedback.

Not a fit

  • ✕You need a logo by tomorrow at the lowest possible price.
  • ✕Many people want to vote on every design, with no one able to make the final call.
  • ✕You want a new identity but are not ready to update signage, website and materials to match.

Branding is quoted per project. Cost depends on whether strategy work is included or the brief is design only, how many identity routes and revision rounds you want, and how much collateral is needed. You get a written scope before work begins.

What to ask a branding agency before you sign

  • Show me identities, not just logos. Ask to see how a brand looks across real applications, such as a brochure, signage, a website and social posts.
  • What happens before design starts? If the answer is "we send logo options next week", there is no strategy behind the work.
  • How many routes and revision rounds are included? Agree this in writing to avoid endless rounds or a take-it-or-leave-it single option.
  • What files will we receive? You need vector source files, not just a PNG.
  • Who designs the work? Ask whether it is done in-house or passed to freelancers.

What a complete brand identity should include

Use this as a checklist when comparing proposals:

  1. Primary logo, secondary versions and a small icon or monogram
  2. Colour palette with values for print and screen
  3. Typefaces for headings and body text, with licence details
  4. Graphic elements, patterns or shapes that extend the identity
  5. Photography and illustration direction
  6. Tone of voice with example headlines
  7. Guidelines showing correct and incorrect use
  8. Templates for the materials you produce most often

What drives branding cost

The biggest factors are strategy depth (a positioning workshop and written framework, or design only), the number of identity routes explored, revision rounds, and collateral volume. A logo with a one-page guide is a very different project from a full identity with brochure, signage, stationery, social templates and a website. Asking for the collateral list upfront gives you a realistic quote rather than a surprise later.

Rebranding mistakes to avoid

  • Judging a logo only at full size on a laptop. Check it as a WhatsApp profile picture, on a site hoarding seen from a moving car and printed in one colour.
  • Following a trend. What looks current this year can look dated quickly. Aim for clarity first.
  • Skipping the trademark check. Before finalising a name or mark, ask a trademark lawyer to search existing registrations.
  • Launching without guidelines. Without rules, every vendor interprets the brand differently, and consistency is lost within months.
  • Changing everything at once without a plan. List every place the old brand appears and schedule the switch.

Once the identity is ready, it needs to work hard on the channels buyers see most. See how we apply it through social media marketing and website development.

FAQ

Questions people ask us

What is the difference between a logo and a brand identity?

A logo is one mark. A brand identity is the full system around it, including colours, typefaces, imagery style, layout principles, tone of voice and usage rules. The identity is what makes a brochure, a hoarding and an Instagram post recognisably yours even when the logo is small or missing.

How long does brand identity design take?

Around 4 to 6 weeks for strategy, logo and the core identity, if feedback comes back within a few days each round. Guidelines and collateral such as brochures or signage add time depending on quantity. Most delays come from waiting on decisions, so agree who has the final say before starting.

How many logo concepts will we see?

The number of routes and revision rounds is agreed in the scope. More options are not always better. Two or three well-reasoned directions, each shown on real applications, lead to better decisions than a dozen quick sketches. Each route is explained against the positioning agreed in the strategy stage.

Do we own the logo and design files?

Yes. On completion your business gets full rights to the logo and identity, along with the final files, including editable vector source files. Fonts are the exception, because typeface licences belong to the type foundry. We tell you upfront whether a font is free to use or needs a licence.

Can we rebrand without confusing existing customers?

Yes. Not every rebrand needs a clean break. If people already recognise your colours or symbol, an evolution keeps those cues while fixing what is dated or inconsistent. A phased rollout, starting with digital channels and moving to signage and print, also spreads cost and gives customers time to adjust.

Do you handle outdoor media and PR for a brand launch?

Yes, through our partners. Madhur Puri plans and buys outdoor media, Himanshu Upadhyay leads public relations and Vikram Singh Parmar handles events. For a launch, that means the identity, the website, the digital campaigns and the offline presence can be planned together by people who talk to each other.
